It also answers questions treatment providers, particularly counselors and program administrators, may have about injectable naltrexone. These questions include-

What is naltrexone for extended-release injectable suspension?

How does injectable naltrexone address patient nonadherence?

What is the efficacy of injectable naltrexone?

How safe is injectable naltrexone?

How can substance abuse specialty treatment providers incorporate injectable naltrexone into their practice?

The comparison table offers seven topical comparisons in the following categories: mechanism of action, usual adult dosage and prescribing information, examples of drugs causing interactions, common side effects, contraindications, precautions and serious adverse reactions. In addition, the report provides information that treatment providers should share with the patients about the drug as well as the effectiveness of injectable naltrexone.

“Naltrexone for Extended-Release Injectable Suspension for Treatment of Alcohol Dependence” (Substance Abuse Treatment Advisory, Spring 2007, Volume 6, Issue 1) is available on the Web at www.kap.samhsa.gov. Designed to assist Asian American parents' prevention efforts

A new advertising campaign was launched yesterday from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. It is designed to help Asian American parents protect their teens from marijuana and other drug use. This print ad campaign reveals the world of Asian American teens that immigrant parents may be unfamiliar with. The ads provide easy steps to take in monitoring their teen and they explain the risks teens face today.

The campaign is composed of four print ads titled "Game," "Photo," "Read," and "Room," will appear in 65 Asian American publications across the country beginning this week. In addition to basic drug information, such as the signs and symptoms of marijuana use, the ads urge parents to adopt monitoring skills that are proven effective in preventing teen drug use. These include:

-Establishing a clear "no-drugs" rule
-Having teens engage in constructive and adult-supervised activities outside of school
-Finding out who your child's friends are and getting to know them
-Getting in touch with adults in your teen's life, such as teachers and coaches
-Staying informed of your teen's progress in school, employment, and other activities
-Being aware of the signs of symptoms of drug use

The campaign was created by IW Group, an advertising agency with expertise in Asian American marketing and outreach, and the concepts were tested with Asian American parents.

Research shows that marijuana is the primary drug used by 57 percent of all Asian American and Pacific Islander youth ages 12 to 17 admitted for drug treatment.

* To view the ads, go to the Ad Gallery Print section of www.mediacampaign.org: http://www.mediacampaign.org/mg/print.html

* English versions of the advertisements are now available to youth-and family-serving organizations in the Asian American community for customization and distribution for their own drug prevention efforts. To download customizable PDF versions of the ads, send a request to nyac@theantidrug.com

* Asian American parents are also encouraged visit the website below and to sign up for TheAntiDrug.com's Parenting Tips e-newsletter. http://www.theantidrug.com/newsletter.asp

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://centralcaptupdate.blogspot.com/2006/10/different-world-ad-campaign-launched.html' title='"Different World" ad campaign launched. This report was published in the Federal Register on March 14, 2006 and is available for download here in PDF format.

SAMHSA has made substantial changes to the NREPP system based on public comments received in response to an August 2005 Federal Register Notice (FRN), which is also available for download here in PDF format. A detailed analysis of the public comments received in response to that notice is included in the March 2006 FRN.

SAMHSA and its NREPP contractor, MANILA Consulting Group, will commence reviews of programs and practices in Summer 2006. It is likely that programs reviewed under the old NREPP system, including existing NREPP programs and those previously reviewed but never posted to the Web site, will be prioritized for review. As noted in the March 2006 FRN, additional priorities and timelines will be established by SAMHSA's three Centers.

By Fall 2006, SAMHSA anticipates the launching of a new NREPP Web site at www.nationalregistry.samhsa.gov. Although the development of the Web site is still ongoing, SAMHSA has provided a mock-up of what a typical program/practice summary might look like on the site. A text-only version of this mockup is also available.

SAMHSA invites all program developers, researchers, and other individuals interested in NREPP to carefully review the March 2006 Federal Register Notice for detailed information about the new NREPP review system, as well as the public comments that SAMHSA received during the development process.

For general information regarding the new NREPP, including how these changes will affect program reviews and existing program ratings, please see SAMHSA's new posting on Frequently Asked Questions After transitioning from our paper-based CAPTions newsletter to an all electronic email list, we now are happy to present even more options for receiving this information. Starting today we will be using a combination of website, email and blog technology to inform the field about news and events at the Central CAPT. We will also be posting general news items of interest to the prevention field. Listed below are the ways you can access this information:

Email

All updates will be simultaneously posted via email, web site and blog/newsfeed. If you are receiving this message via email you are already subscribed to the email version of the Central CAPT update, and there will be special instructions at the bottom of the message for you to manage your subscription. If you would like to subscribe to the Central CAPT Update, you may send a message to centralcaptupdate-subscribe@ccapt.org and you will receive a message to confirm your subscription to the list.

Web

The Central CAPT Update has a home on the web at: http://CentralCaptUpdate.blogspot.com

Newsfeed

The Central CAPT Update is using blogging technology (and the Blogger service) to create updates. These updates can be subscribed to using newsreading software such as Newsgator, the Firefox web browser or the Thunderbird email client. For more information about this technology please see:

What is a Web Log or Blog? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weblog
How do I subscribe to a Blog? - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_aggregator

This message is our starting point. Stay tuned for actual news and updates from the field of substance abuse prevention. We anticipate that messages will go out 2 to 3 times a week and we welcome your comments and suggestions. You can send email comments to centralcapt@ccapt.org, and you can post comments about the updates on the website.

Welcome!
The Central CAPT Update Team.

CSAP’s Central CAPT is administered by the Minnesota Institute of Public Health with funding provided through a contract from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention.

CSAP’s Central CAPT
2720 Highway 10 NE
Mounds View, MN 55112
800-782-1878
763-427-7841 (Fax)
captus.samhsa.gov

Key Contacts:
Kevin Ringhofer, Director— kringhofer@miph.org
Tom Moberg, Associate Director – tmoberg@miph.org
Tracy Johnson, Associate Director – tjohnson@miph.org
Christine Rosga, Center Manager – crosga@miph.org

For a complete staff listing visit: http://captus.samhsa.gov/central/about/staff.cfm
