SAMHSA Announces Changes to the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP)
Updated March 14, 2006
SAMHSA is pleased to make available to the public a report describing changes that have been made to the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP). This report was published in the Federal Register on March 14, 2006 and is available for download here in PDF format.
SAMHSA has made substantial changes to the NREPP system based on public comments received in response to an August 2005 Federal Register Notice (FRN), which is also available for download here in PDF format. A detailed analysis of the public comments received in response to that notice is included in the March 2006 FRN.
SAMHSA and its NREPP contractor, MANILA Consulting Group, will commence reviews of programs and practices in Summer 2006. It is likely that programs reviewed under the old NREPP system, including existing NREPP programs and those previously reviewed but never posted to the Web site, will be prioritized for review. As noted in the March 2006 FRN, additional priorities and timelines will be established by SAMHSA's three Centers.

By Fall 2006, SAMHSA anticipates the launching of a new NREPP Web site at www.nationalregistry.samhsa.gov. Although the development of the Web site is still ongoing, SAMHSA has provided a mock-up of what a typical program/practice summary might look like on the site. A text-only version of this mockup is also available.
SAMHSA invites all program developers, researchers, and other individuals interested in NREPP to carefully review the March 2006 Federal Register Notice for detailed information about the new NREPP review system, as well as the public comments that SAMHSA received during the development process.
For general information regarding the new NREPP, including how these changes will affect program reviews and existing program ratings, please see SAMHSA's new posting on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
